Our Story

Hello fellow pet stewards, my name is Shahna, and I am the proud founder of My Critter Store. Inspired by my lifelong love for animals, I started My Critter Store in 2014 with a mission to improve the lives of small pets. 

In 2017, my mother Rhonda joined me in this venture, and together we built a thriving business and a supportive community at My Critter Store. However, in November 2018, the devastating Camp Fire in California destroyed our business and home. Although we narrowly escaped with our lives, the loss was profound.

Rhonda took on the challenge of rebuilding the store, partnering with my brother Andrew, and their efforts saw the store flourish once more. Tragically, just six months later, Rhonda was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, forcing the store to close again. After a courageous two year battle with her illness, Rhonda passed away, leaving the store dormant.

In early 2024, my continued dedication to chinchillas inspired the creation of the Global Chinchilla Alliance (GCA), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization devoted to enhancing chinchilla welfare worldwide. By May of that same year, following extensive research for my book "Chinchilla Care 101: The Ultimate Reference Guide" and the formation of GCA, I knew it was time to revive My Critter Store. The research highlighted a significant lack of high-quality, safe, and meaningful products for small pets, prompting me to take action. 

My Critter Store has risen from the ashes, overcoming immense challenges and loss. We are ready to serve pet owners again with renewed dedication and passion. Our mission is to help you provide the very best for your companions, ensuring their happiness and well-being.
